Up until now, the coop has simply been producing in a spare room in the house of its president. This has grown increasingly cramped as the coop's production has increased, and a few years ago the coop obtained a small lot with a small building to convert into their production center. Little by little over the years they have been investing their profits in improving the space, installing electricity, laying down tile, etc. Now the center is nearly complete but still lacks a few key improvements before it is suitable for basic production, namely a ceiling to protect the machinery and honey from dirt and debris, a toilet, a sink, and a special type of paint to seal the walls against moisture.
This loan will enable the coop to move their entire operation to this bigger, more suitable production space. It is going to impact | the production of three products, namely: 1) honey and its sub-products (honey infused with pollen, etc.), 2) organic fair trade honey wine, 3) a new line of serving-size bags of honey.
The majority of the need for this loan is that the machine to produce the serving-size bags requires more hygienic conditions than the other products (for example the ceiling), and the urgency for this loan is that this machine is currently en route and should arrive shortly, and the coop currently has nowhere to put it.
Notwithstanding, this loan will also have a positive impact on the wine and honey, allowing both to be produced more efficiently (in bigger batches), and assuring quality (no debris). Finally this loan also sets the coop on a path to be able to receive organic certification of the production process, and to export. |
