Where your money goes
Producer Receives
This is the amount that goes straight to the producer from your purchase.
Real Middleman Cost
When you buy an average multinational-made running shoe online, the company charges you at least 1000% - yeah, that's one thousand percent - of the price they paid for the shoe.
We believe that we can run this site for 25% of the price the coops receive for each product.
Our "Real Middleman Cost" includes the design, writing, and maintenance of this site, as well as our liaising with the factories, translating sizes and orders, getting your order to the courier company and following up with customer service, and paying 2% of each order to Paypal.
We may be wildly optimistic. But initially, that's all we are charging for being middlemen.
Working World Fund Contribution
Our biggest project is not actually bringing products from democratic workplaces to market. Our biggest project is our Democratic Capital Fund. So far we have raised about $100,000 that is currently invested in low-interest loans to worker-run businesses. All loans are negotiated collectively, and the terms are democratically approved. As loans are paid back, the funds go right back out to other cooperative businesses. This "Working World Fund Contribution" therefore benefits everyone we work with, and we've set the rate at 20% of what you pay the coops for each product. Of course you are welcome and encouraged to donate more!
